It is often said the first victim of war is the truth. While propaganda spreads uncontrollably, one universal and clear truth remains. During the holidays we feel the heart-aching weight of the empty chair at the table. The missing family members, whether dead or at war, become our focus. The absent become more present. Is there a starker contrast than that between celebratory holidays and war experience? As we move toward two of the bigger winter holidays, Hanukkah and Christmas, we experience deeply the feelings of separation and loss.
